Barry McCabe RIP
Born in Tottenham Barry was the older brother to Geoff. It’s fair to say that Barry “made it" through school with a strong bias to practical things. After leaving school he had various jobs until he secured an apprenticeship at a local garage in Birchington. Attending college on day release he achieved several awards.
His life changed when he met Wendy Fairbrass who was to become his wife in September 1967. Together for almost 50 years they were very much involved in the Birchington Guild Players. 1976 saw the arrival of their only child Ian. The family spent time camping, taking part in steam rallies and the Guild players.
Sadly Wendy suffered with a heart disease and Barry lost her in 2017. He later moved to Hampshire to be with son Ian and soon joined Fareham Men’s Shed. A well liked and colourful character, Barry had many talents at fixing things. His weakness was tools - he loved to pick up a bargain at our monthly meetings. We would always find him in shorts and wearing one of our fleeces. As he lay in his final resting place he was wearing our blue fleece and of course shorts!
We will miss you Barry. God Bless you mate!
RIP Barry
